Overview
I led the design of the RouteOne Fusion app to streamline the automotive financing process for industry professionals. The project began with an inefficient 100-page workflow that I redesigned by suggesting a new navigational approach, which ultimately shaped the entire user experience. After that, I worked with another designer to develop and deliver feature sets, from wireframes to interactive prototypes. We also created a comprehensive design system in Figma to ensure consistency and scalability across the app.
Challenges
- Inefficient Initial Workflow: The original deliverable was a 100-page workflow that was difficult to follow, disjointed, and not user-friendly. This provided the opportunity to rethink the user experience from the ground up.
- Navigation Complexity: The app lacked an intuitive navigation structure, which led to excessive clicks and a cumbersome experience.
Approach
Proposing a New Navigational Approach:
- Recognizing the issues with the original workflow, I suggested a left-navigation panel as a more intuitive solution to improve feature access and reduce unnecessary clicks. This approach streamlined the navigation and made it easier for users to find and interact with key features.
- I presented this approach to the team, and we agreed to incorporate it into the design.
- Collaborating on Feature Set Development:
- Once the navigational approach was agreed upon, I worked with another designer to develop the necessary feature sets and refine the user flows. We worked together to create wireframes that mapped out the core features and the product user flow, ensuring that each step was logical and easy to navigate.
- We also created high-fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes to test the new flows and gather feedback.
- Design System in Figma:
- I led the creation of a design system in Figma that included reusable components like buttons, form fields, and icons, ensuring design consistency throughout the app.
- We defined global typography, color schemes, and spacing to create a cohesive look and feel that aligned with the brand’s identity and user needs.
- Interactive prototypes were built to demonstrate the app’s functionality and to showcase the user workflows for validation and testing.
Results
- Streamlined User Experience: By implementing the left-nav panel, we reduced the number of clicks required to access key features, significantly improving the app’s usability.
- Improved Efficiency: The redesigned feature flows and product user flow reduced task completion times, making it easier and faster for users to complete their tasks.
- Design Consistency: The design system ensured a cohesive and scalable solution, maintaining visual consistency and enhancing the user interface throughout the app.
- User Satisfaction: Through user testing and feedback, the new workflows and simplified navigation were validated, resulting in an improved user experience and increased satisfaction.
This project allowed me to take a problematic workflow and completely transform it into an intuitive, user-friendly app, ensuring that automotive financing professionals could complete tasks more efficiently while maintaining a consistent, polished design.
